Une equipe de scientigiques a excave une tete, un pied, et une jambe geants, chacun mesurant environ 75 centimetres de long, menant les experts a estimer la taille de la statue complete a environ 5 metres. La statue de l’empereur Hadrien a ete decouverte lors des fouilles d’un complexe de bains romains dans la ville antique de Sagalassos, 109 kilometres au nord de la ville balneaire d’Antalya, en Turquie.

    “Parts of a giant, exquisitely-carved marble sculpture depicting the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius have been found at an archaeological site in Turkey. Fragments of the statue were unearthed at the ancient city of Sagalassos. (…) Last year, the team led by Prof Marc Waelkens, from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, uncovered fragments of a colossal marble statue of the emperor Hadrian in the rubble.”
